In Search of Balance

A fun, opinionated tragedy about life, love, friendship, family, and belonging.

Samantha Boyd believes she is inherently unlucky. Unlucky in life, in love, in work, in all things. Hers feels like a life of interminable trials and tribulations and bad luck and bad karma.

As she approaches her thirtieth birthday, Samantha is convinced her misfortunes are taking a turn for the worst. Her civil service job in Westminster is unbearable, her social life pitiful, her relationship with her mother rock bottom, and her love life a mythical nightmare of terrible online dates and non-dates.

But as despair and disappointment slowly strangle and drag her towards midlife oblivion, her fortunes take a sudden turn when an intriguing powerful man shows romantic interest in her. Engulfed in a fog of this new excitement, Samantha becomes oblivious of her bad karma and flounders gullibly into the epicentre of a national scandal, a scandal that throws her off balance.

Clumsy, naïve, and gullible; Samantha always finds a way to make things worse and dig herself deeper and deeper into a bottomless abyss of pain and humiliation.

As she falls spectacularly into self-inflicted oblivion, Samantha is forced to confront her demons and ghosts and skeletons in the search for balance.
